When I moved to Melbourne in 2016, I rekindled my passion for broadcasting by joining Southern FM, my local community radio station. With experience as a program producer for 5RTI (which later became Fresh 92.7 & Radio Italiana 531) and providing voiceovers for HIT107.1FM, the transition was seamless. I quickly discovered the wealth of new music flowing into the station and developed a keen focus on Australian music. It’s a lesser-known fact that the CBAA mandates a 25% Australian music airplay requirement. Within just two months, I designed a program that featured a local singer-songwriter for a full hour on air each week. Each guest echoed a common sentiment: “You’ve been helping so many as a career coach, but it’s clear you have a deep love for Australian music. Why not coach us?”
This inspired me to embark on a self-directed internship, managing an artist, which soon evolved into roles as a venue booker and freelance music journalist. Launching my music blog, I dove headfirst into attending industry events like Big Sound and the ARIA Awards in Sydney.
By 2017, I was emceeing live music launches, acting as a booking agent for artists, and offering comprehensive music promotion services. That year, an industry expert dubbed me “The next Molly Meldrum.”
Life’s journey took me north to Queensland, where I faced challenges continuing in radio. Undeterred, I launched the podcast "Behind The Music with Ellie D" when my son was just four months old. This platform allowed independent singer-songwriters to share the stories behind their music.
By 2021, I had launched my independent internet radio station, OzNow Radio, with a strong focus on promoting original Australian music. Even while on hospital bed rest for three months, awaiting the birth of my twin daughters, I worked tirelessly to expand the music catalogue. Hundreds of artists benefited from this self-funded project, but I had even bigger dreams.
In 2023, I decided to take my music promotion efforts to the next level by closing OzNow Radio and accepting an invitation to join the Management Team at The Bizz Presents for eXposure. I have had the pleasure of representing incredible Australian music artists like Suellen Cusack, Alison Newman, and Hazel Ray.
Representing powerful women in music has become a passion of mine, but my greatest passion is supporting those dedicated to pursuing a career in Australian music.
